ENERGY AUDIT

ENERGY AUDIT

An energy audit is a process of identifying and evaluating energy management opportunities at a defined site. It focuses on specific areas of the site’s energy system, such as natural gas boilers, steam distribution, pump/motor systems, refrigeration, compressed air, venting systems and related water and waste water discharge issues.

During an audit, a baseline is developed to characterize and benchmark energy use. Individual unit operations, processes and major energy-consuming equipment are evaluated to identify efficiency opportunities and high return-on-investment projects. An action-oriented report describes each opportunity area, including an estimate of the cost to implement the changes, the savings that will be generated and the payback period.

a. Energy is one of the key parameters in identifying a country’s economic development and hence the more energy saved improves the country’s security and also economy.

b. Higher energy needs result in huge investments in the form of setting up power plants etc.

c. Depleting natural resources – Oil will last for 45 years, Gas – 65 years and Coal over 200 years – is quite disturbing and thus the need to save energy becomes inevitable.

d. It’s an initiative for a clean, green and sustainable environment.

Energy audits represent an opportunity to:

a. Find out how to reduce energy costs by a minimum of 5 to 15 percent, often with payback periods of less than two years.
b. Establish a baseline against which to compare future improvements.
c. Help kick-start a company energy management strategy.

Using energy efficient products helps the Industries in:

a. Reducing energy bills
b. Increased competitiveness
c. Improved quality
d. Increased profits
e. Reduces GHG emissions
f. Maintains a sustainable environment

While industry consumes 50% of the total energy expended, 20% of this is consumed by pumps. 30-50% of this energy guzzled by pumps can be saved.

The life cycle cost in a pump reveal that the energy costs eats away 85%, maintenance costs 10% and the initial investment of the product is a meager 5%.

The reasons for high power consumption in pumps are:

a. Wrong selection
b. Overdesign
c. Improper layout
d. Old inefficient pumps

Given the above, it is evident that pumps become a prime candidate for energy audit in the drive for energy conservation.

At QPoint, we follow four-point method for conducting Energy Audits for pumping system in any Industry:

a. Preliminary Audit:

Customer needs to fill up the standard pump format, which will be provided by us. At QPOINT, we will analyze the pumps available in the plant and assess the saving potential based on the Models and the extensive ranges of pumps available with us.

b. Detailed Audit:

On assessing the saving potential available, pumps will be shortlisted for study. Shortlisting will be done mainly based on the power rating and the operating duration of the pumps. Detailed study with Ultrasonic flow meter, Power Analyzer and pressure gauges will be conducted. Not only pumps but also the pumping system as a whole will be studied and recommendations will be given for layout and piping modifications wherever applicable.

c. Detailed report:

A detailed report of the observations and recommendations will be provided in the final report. Offer for new pumps and the technical details will be provided.

d. Continuous follow up for sustained benefits

QPOINT will constantly be in touch with the customer during the implementation of the proposal and after-sales service in order to assist the customer to achieve maximum benefits in the long run.

a. Power Anlyser/Energy meter
b. Ultrasonic flow meter for water and sewage
c. Calibrated pressure gauges

The comprehensive and professional energy audit report will consist of:

a. Executive Summary
b. Introduction
c. Write up
d. Existing and new system layout
e. Detailed calculations
f. Commercial offer
g. Technical brochures
h. Sum up
